There are ways to prevent fires and there are ways to see if there are fires near you or if there is a high chance of one happening.
There are several ways to stop bush fires on your farm or around your house. Here are examples of how to keep your house and yourself safe.
If a fire is in your local area and you think that it might pass through your land, put on the sprinkler, splash the ground with water, fill your gutters with water and hose your roof down. This makes it hard for your lawn to catch alight, or for flying embers (sparks in the air or burning leaves being blown by the wind) landing on your roof or in your gutters and catching your home on fire. But you can’t wait and stick around at your house to see if it's alright because you could get trapped and risk dying just trying to save your home.
One way to see if there is a fire in your local area is to check the CFA website. Another way to find out the likelihood of a fire hazard occuring is on the side of the road there are fire rating notice boards. They have warnings from Low through to Extreme. There are apps you can get for your mobile phone, and there is also a fire warning system for landlines. You can listen to the radio to hear of fire reports. And look outside!
